An Apple Valley man bit a sheriff's deputy during a welfare check of a child, San Bernardino County authorities said. On Friday, deputies said they conducted a welfare check on a child who had not attended school in over a week. They went to a home in the 15200 block of Nokomis Road and spoke with Jose Francisco Garcia, 51, in the front yard. Garcia immediately became confrontational and violent with the deputies, who attempted to de-escalate the situation, according to sheriff's officials. A brief struggle ensued between deputies and Garcia, who allegedly bit one of the deputies on the arm, sheriff's officials said.
